What to Do When There Are Signs That Your Dog is about to Give Birth?

  • If the dog will give birth at home, the owner can ensure that the umbilical cord of the mother is protected from infection through application of an antiseptic.
  • Be prepared and alert for any untoward signs of discrepancies in the birthing process.
  • Help clean the liquid discharge from the puppy’s mouth and nose with a gentle wipe of a cotton swab.
