When it has surpassed approximately 63 days, which is the period of pregnancy for canines. The time for childbirth in dogs is within 59 to 69 days.
Body temperature drops to 97 degrees when it starts labor that can last for a day.
Once the dog starts to refuse food, it can be a good sign that it’s about to give birth.
The dog keeps nudging the owner for attention, prodding the person to say close to its side during the whole ordeal.
Female dogs want to have a comfortable spot to give birth in, so they look for a nook or corner where the puppies will be safe and secure.
Vomiting and trembling is also a signal for the dog to have her babies.

If the dog will give birth at home, the owner can ensure that the umbilical cord of the mother is protected from infection through application of an antiseptic.

Difficulty in making the first kitten come out should be again taken note of, as this can be harmful for the cat and the litter as well. Contact the veterinarian immediately at the onset of such situation.
